Editor’s Note

I was very pleased to be asked to edit this volume on Gynecology and Obstetrics and to help bring some of Dr You’s expertise to a wider audience in the west.

I hope that I have been able to preserve the essence of her words while expressing their full meaning in modern English language that is easy to read.

This is a text in the traditional style, one that focuses on pure TCM with only passing reference to Western medicine. Hence some of the newer or more recent developments in Western management of gynecological and obstetric disorders are not included here.

Some of the clinical situations described in the text are more commonly encountered in a Chinese medical setting than a Western one.

The content, clinical strategy and advice given is those of the author, Dr You. The case histories given at the end of each chapter, have not been edited or altered, so that they remain the voice of the original doctor.

I hope Dr You’s experience and skill will reach and guide many practitioners worldwide via this text.
